It’s Time For Civil Disobedience: America Needs To Say “Hell No!”        

Too many Americans are sitting back and allowing their individual rights to be trampled on by power-hungry government officials. Across the country, governors have used COVID-related fear to enhance their power while relegating state legislatures to mere observers.

This needs to end and it needs to end NOW!

Originally, we were all told to quarantine for 15 days to “slow the spread.” That was in March. Well, here we are at Thanksgiving and the lockdowns have begun anew in many Democrat-run states.

It is time for Americans to say “no more” and defy these unconstitutional orders. The Constitution isn’t suspended when there is a public health emergency.

Our country was founded on the God-given right to personal property. The government was instituted for the purpose of protecting that property from harm by others, not to usurp those rights. These governors’ actions are exactly why the Founders diffused power out of the hands of one entity and spread it around so that one man couldn’t behave like a tyrant.

James Madison once wrote that “Government is instituted to protect property of every sort; as well that which lies in the various rights of individuals, as that which the term particularly expresses. This being the end of government, that alone is a just government, which impartially secures to every man, whatever is his own.”

John Locke—who was a major influence on the Founding Founders—wrote, “The state of nature has a law of nature to govern it, which obliges every one: and reason, which is that law, teaches all mankind, who will but consult it, that being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, liberty, or possession.”

It is baffling to me why so many Americans have stood by as state governments have forced their businesses to close and caused massive job-loss the likes of which we have never seen in American history.

Citizens are doing exactly as they are being told. It is time for civil disobedience. Americans need to stand up to their state governments, refuse to close their businesses, and to have as many people as they would like over to their private residences for Thanksgiving. The government has no right to dictate what people do on their private property.

An owner of a restaurant in Newaygo, Michigan is doing just this. He is defying Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s order to close dine-in service for three weeks.

Mlive reported, “The owner of a Newaygo bar and restaurant that has defied a state health order to stop in-person dining says his decision is meant to protect the livelihoods of his employees and his family’s legacy.

‘Because of the history here and the fact that I cannot put 30 employees out of work, it’s what’s right,’ Jim Corey, owner of Jimmy’s Roadhouse, told MLive Monday of his decision to continue dine-in service…

On Friday, Corey’s restaurant hosted a ‘Stand Up Michigan’ rally that attracted hundreds opposed to the latest round of coronavirus restrictions.

The group ‘Stand Up Michigan’ had backed an ‘Unlock Michigan’ petition drive that sought to limit Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s executive powers.”

Jim Corey is following in the footsteps of great movements of civil disobedience that affected change throughout American history. The Civil Rights and Suffrage movements ended segregation and earned women the right to vote.

It is time for a modern civil rights movement. It is time for We the People to take our Country back. If we don’t, the government will continue to grow their power. Governments never give up power willingly when they possess it.

If we don’t stand up for our rights, we will be one step closer to tyranny…and that would be a shame indeed.
