Happy Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is upon us once again. The day that many people spend more time thinking and planning to do a little something special for their spouse or loved one.

Being a follower of Christ we have been called to walk in Love at all times. Love has many different languages and ways that we can show this love. In the busyness of everyday life, working, ministry, children, and everything in between, it can bring a routine way of thought patterns that we may feel that our spouse should already know we love them without realizing that if you do not put a log on a fire the fire can go out.

Maybe you have been looking for little ideas that would spark this flame and keep it burning hot all throughout the year. You can do this by doing little things for your spouse to let them know that you are pay attention and that things you share together matter.

Here are a couple ideas you can consider taking some time out to do for or with your spouse to help fuel the flames of love.

A love letter is one way to show and tell your spouse how much you love them. Taking it up to a new level, find a scripture that defines your relationship or use a favorite one that your spouse loves. Personalize the letter with the scripture, and find a nice frame to put it in where they can hang it and read it every day.

Scrapbooking is another way that couples can do an activity together and look over their times they spend together. It is something to look forward to doing after taking pictures on the holidays and special occasions. Enjoying a few laughs together when those really awkward and “caught the moment” pictures comes up. You can even take it a step up and add different scriptures or favorite Christian quotes that you like to the pages.

Jewelry is one of the most popular gifts that a person chooses to say “I love you” on Valentine’s day. If your spouse likes to receive jewelry put another special touch to the thought and get one that reflects your faith. This will give it a bigger meaning to the one receiving it and a gift that keeps on giving each time they put it on.

Dinner is another popular activity that comes to mind. This is something you can do by going to a restaurant or just enjoying a meal at home a couple times a month. Add a touch of flowers and making it a little more romantic can make a spouse feel special. You can also decide to plan and do this together and enjoy the whole process from shopping, to cooking, setting the table and letting it bring a special bond of working together. Afterwards, you can cuddle on the couch with some hot chocolate or coffee and take turns reading the Word of God and discuss what each of you get out of it. If you don’t do this daily with each other, what a better way of putting a new step forward.

Don’t be afraid to try something new with your spouse. As you pursue something new together it will encourage you to lean upon each other as you step out in the new adventure from working out together, trying paintball, or exploring new foods. Just remember in everything you do, God is there with you and is always willing to help you love more.
