“The Snare Is Broken!”
Ryan Johnson, Sevierville, TN

“‘If it had it not been the Lord who was on our side,’ let Israel now say, ‘If it had it not been the Lord who was on our side when men rose up against us, then they would have swallowed us alive, when their anger was kindled against us; then the waters would have engulfed us, the stream would have swept over our soul; then the raging waters would have swept over our soul.’

“Blessed be the Lord, who has not given us to be torn by their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper; the snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made Heaven and Earth.” (Psalm 124)

Do you realize that at the very moment when you think you are down and out, God is declaring over you, “THE SNARE IS BROKEN”? There are many, right now, who have been dealing with some snares. Some of you have been dealing with the pitfalls of life. You have stumbled. You have fallen. You have dealt with some things that others have not had to endure.

For many, it is a process of trying to get back up. I know that some of you are dealing with situations and circumstances beyond your control. Others of you are dealing with issues that you helped to create yourselves. It’s because of these things that you are feeling helpless and without hope that they will ever change. For some of you there are feelings of lack, and at times you are even battling feelings of loneliness. For some of you it is financial issues, physical issues, and, yes, even spiritual issues. Your mind seems to be clouded, causing the words you hear to be scrambled, creating chaos with your relationship with the Lord.

When we go back and read the Psalm above, we are reminded about David. David was a man of God that God had ordained to do great things. Both David and the Lord had a covenant relationship that could not be broken. This relationship was not simply a religious relationship, but a fellowship between the two. David knew that he could go to God for anything that he needed or with anything he had to face. David had confidence in the Lord, regardless of what he was about to endure.

Through all of David’s wrongdoings – every failure, every challenge and every snare – David believed that God would honor His promise to him. It would be through David’s faith and confidence in the Lord that he would do great things for the Lord. Think about how this specific Scripture begins: “Had it not been the Lord who was on our side…”

If it hadn’t been for the Lord when you lost that job… If it hadn’t been for the Lord when you lost that loved one… If it hadn’t been for the Lord when you were dealing with that addiction… If it hadn’t been for the Lord when you were all alone…

What about when your child was sick, or when you didn’t know where you were going to lay your head? What about when you didn’t have enough money to put food on the table? If it had not been for the Lord…

When those people came against you, it was the Lord who protected you. When the enemy tried to swallow you up, it was the Lord who shielded you. When the wrath of others waged war against you, it was the Lord who kept you safe. When you were overwhelmed with it all, it was the Lord who carried you through valley.

This why David said throughout his writings…

• I will look to the Maker of the hills and Heaven, where my Help comes from

• The Lord is my Light and my Salvation…

• My Strong Tower

• My Rock and my Refuge

• My guiding path

• God will lift me up

• God will deliver me in my due season

What Is a Snare?

A snare is a pitfall, or a stronghold. In the original Hebrew, the word “snare” (moqesh) translates to a “trap” that has been set. It also means to be trapped with a noose. In other words, think of those moments where you have been entrapped by some of the snares in life, where you have been held back from your progression, held back from freedom and liberty, held back from what God had for you…whatever the issue, the most valuable asset you have is your faith, trust, and confidence in the Lord. When you know the provision and power of God in your life, and how God wants you to know His love and delivering power, snares will be broken!

The enemy wanted to make you miserable by holding you back through deception, wickedness, anger, bitterness, unforgiveness, and more – during times when you felt like the world was coming against you, and life was upside down. Now, in this moment, you may be looking back on all those difficult times; you may be wondering if it was all worth it. Perhaps right now you feel like giving up, checking out on your relationship with the Lord…but God…God has already told you that there is more to life than that. God has already told you that you have a purpose. Your purpose is greater than the obstacle in front of you. Satan tried to take away your life and the lives of others, yet in the midst of darkness, a light could be seen. God stepped in and said, “Trust Me.”

“Trust Me”

Some of you are reading this word and thinking of yourselves and/or another individual that you care about. The burden of problems didn’t happen overnight. Maybe the weight created a rift within your relationship with the Lord, and with others. Maybe some of you (and others) stopped reading the Word of the Lord, while God was saying, “Trust Me.” Perhaps some of you stopped giving your tithes and offerings because of the financial attacks, while God was saying, “Trust Me”; or some of you stopped attending the local church while God was saying, “Trust Me.”

I share these things as a reminder that when the enemy comes to steal, kill, and destroy, we cannot permit our lives to coincide with the strategy of the enemy to remove us from our relationship with the Lord. Regardless of what we are going through and what we reject from the Lord, we still have the truth that God is calling us to trust Him.

Satan thought he had a hold on you. Satan thought he was going to take you down. Satan thought he was going to mess your life up beyond recognition. Satan thought he was going to keep you in prison. Satan thought he was going to make you fail the Lord. But God…God has declared in the midst of your storms that He is more than enough. God is declaring over your life today that He is making a way for you! God is declaring over your life today that He is carrying you through the storm. God is going to walk with you and you will see the hand of the Deliverer. The snare is broken!

Praise the Lord!

Right now, no matter where you are at, you need to start praising the Lord. Who cares who hears you? Praise Him in your house. Praise Him in the car. Praise Him at the bus stop. Praise Him in the elevator. Even if you don’t recognize that the snare is broken, praise Him! Great is the Lord and He is greatly to be praised!

I am prophesying over your life that the snare is broken! Rise up and tell yourself that you will refuse to look back, because God is declaring over you today that the snare is broken!

Declare these things over your life:

• My enemies will fall, and I will get back up!

• His grace and mercy will endure!

• I will bless the Lord at all times!

• His praise shall continually be in my mouth!

• I will lift up my hands for I know where my Help comes from!

• I am an overcomer!

• I am more than a conqueror!

• I will not live a defeated life!

• I am His and He is mine!

• The snare is broken, and I have escaped!
