Situational Awareness – Spike in Off-Base Shootings **Increase Vigilance** (UNCLASSIFIED)

For your information and situational awareness. During the past two weeks the City of Dover has experienced a spike in violent crimes, specifically drive-by shootings and the use of handguns in the commission of crimes. Apply your Antiterrorism Awareness Level I training and Individual Protective Measures when on and off the Installation.

• Shooting on Haman Drive Injures 20-Year-Old Male 12-31-2019
• Shooting at Barrister Place Leaves Man Wounded 12-31-2019
• Two Men Shot on S. New Street 12-30-2019
• Home Struck by Gunfire in Capital Park, S. Governors Blvd 12-28-2019
• Shooting in Capital Park, S. Governors Blvd Leaves Woman Wounded 12-27-2019
• Home Struck by Gunfire on S. New Street 12-28-2019
• Two Homes Struck by Gunfire on S. New Street 12-26-2019
• Shots Fired at Intersection of Webbs Lane and S. DuPont Highway 12-24-2019

Security Reminder Tips:
• Be alert to your surroundings at all times!
• Increase your Situational Awareness while traveling (e.g., airports, train stations, etc.)
• Make routine security checks at work, home and on vehicles to detect tampering
• Maintain Positive Key Control (POVs and GOVs) – Lock Vehicles!
• Safeguard ID, CAC and Facility Access Control Badges on and off-base
• Enforce OPSEC and COMSEC Practices at Work and Home
• Be Alert to Impersonators – Don’t give out personal information unless you’ve initiated the contact
• Secure Supply, Equipment and Mechanical Rooms
• Validate Access to Controlled Areas and Restricted Rooms
• Be Knowledgeable of Emergency and Contingency Plans
• Employ Daily Security Practices to Create a “Hard Target”
• Be Suspicious of Unsolicited Phone Calls, Emails, or Visit Requests
• Don’t Allow “Tailgating” or “Piggybacking” into the Facility
• Immediately Report Any Suspicious Activity – “Eagle Eyes”…See Something, Say Something

Your situational awareness is a critical asset in protecting the Installation and the Homeland. Be aware, be alert and report any suspicious activity immediately to the Security Forces 24-hour Control Center at 677-2100 or if off-base to the Delaware State Police Terrorism Tip Line 1-800-FORCE-12.
