Greetings, Body of Believers —
Today, October 7, 2025, marks the start of Sukkot, the week-long Festival of Booths. This beautiful Jewish celebration honors two connected truths: God’s protection during the Israelites’ wilderness journey and the gratitude of harvest time.
Historically, Sukkot remembers the forty years the Israelites wandered after the Exodus, living in temporary shelters. The sukkah — a simple, outdoor booth — reminds us of God’s provision and presence during that vulnerable season of life.
At the same time, Sukkot is a harvest festival. In ancient Israel it was a time of in-gathering — bringing the year’s crops to the Temple in thankfulness. Today it remains an expression of gratitude for God’s daily provision.
Sukkot is also called the Season of Our Joy. It follows the solemnity of the High Holy Days and opens into a time for celebration, hospitality, and community. Families and neighbors share meals in the sukkah, welcome guests, and rejoice together.
Traditional observances include dwelling in the sukkah for meals (and sometimes sleep) and the waving of the Four Species — the lulav, etrog, myrtle, and willow — which symbolize unity and thanksgiving.
May this season remind us to trust God’s protection, to celebrate His provision, and to welcome others with generous hospitality.
Blessings,
In Christ,
