The River of God Is Full of Water
Recently a phrase came to mind: “The river of God is full of water” (see Psalm 65: 9). I knew it was the Holy Spirit speaking. It’s the answer to many questions and an unwavering truth: Our God never fails; He never runs dry!
In that moment, it proved to be the turning point I needed. Perhaps you also need to hear today, “The river of God is full of water.”
In 1 Kings chapter 17, God hides the prophet Elijah from King Ahab. The Lord gives him the command, “You shall drink from the brook [Cherith].” It was a miraculous provision, but Elijah’s ongoing water supply was uncertain.
“But after a while the brook dried up, for there was no rainfall anywhere in the land.” (1 Kings 17: 7 NLT)
Sometimes we obey God, but the conditions seem to change. We may ask, “But, Lord, You said… What about Your promise?” The brook you are looking at may be running dry, but “the river of God is full of water.”
The Holy Spirit wants to open our eyes to see the supply of the Kingdom. Meanwhile, the enemy wants us to believe the tide is out and that we are lacking and in short supply. This is a scarcity mentality; it’s an orphan mindset trying to creep back into our thought life.
Elijah’s water supply running dry was good news in disguise! It was a sign that God had lined up something new for him. The Lord was about to visit with new instructions.
Let’s consider: What if the answer to our need is in this statement of faith? “The river of God is full of water!” In other words, “My God is present, available, and moving. And He is abundant.”
The “river of God” speaks of an ever-present spiritual reality. The Hebrew word for “full” means fullness and plenty. It speaks of abundance (see Strong’s H4390).
River of Delights and Abundance
The river symbolizes the flow of His Spirit, our life-giving salvation in Christ, provision, God’s presence, and the abundance of His miracle-working power.
This river of life flows from Genesis to Revelation, and it’s personal for each one of us.
“You feed them from the abundance of Your own house, letting them drink from Your river of delights.” (Psalm 36 :8 NLT)
Many years ago, when our son was small, we visited Pukekura Park in New Plymouth, New Zealand.
“Look, Stephen! It’s a waterfall!” I exclaimed.
I stopped and positioned his stroller so he could see it. Water trickled down an artificial rock face, and we paused to admire it. Then my husband Malcolm called out. While we looked at the water, he read a sign on the wall behind us. It said, “Insert a coin to start the waterfall!”
I searched in my bag, retrieved a coin, and inserted it. Suddenly there was a mighty rush as a huge flow poured down the rock face! I walked away laughing. What I had thought was the waterfall was only a trickle.
River of Life: How to Release God’s Abundant Power
We know God has an abundant supply, but how do we tap into it?
- Recall God’s Willingness
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the Kingdom.” (Luke 12: 32 NKJV)
Be reassured that God is willing to move on your behalf. As you walk in His plan, He has already established your supply.
Wherever God’s river flows, there is harvest and healing.
“…The river of God has plenty of water; it provides a bountiful harvest of grain, for You have ordered it so.” (Psalm 65: 9 NLT)
It speaks of the generosity of the Father.
- Refocus on God’s Word
There is a Kingdom reality. The river of God is full of water!
If we focus on the decline or threat that is all we will see. The tide is going out! It may feel like problems surround us and fatigue clouds our perspective. Everywhere we look, there seems to be a deficit or challenge. But the supply of the Kingdom is a spiritual reality, declared in God’s Word. We can perceive it and know that we are heirs in Christ. The fullness of the Kingdom is available to us! The river of God is full of water! And the truth of God’s Word changes our perspective.
- Respond in Faith
Jesus said, “Anyone who believes in Me may come and drink! For the Scriptures declare, ‘Rivers of living water will flow from his heart'” (John 7: 38 NLT).
This is a time to spark our faith using the Word of God! What if we looked at the challenges around us and saw beyond them?
Whenever you face a need, an impossibility with no earthly solution, time and opportunity that you cannot get back, or threats on every side, then declare, “The river of God is full of water!”
When we see it, we will naturally grasp it. We will proclaim it, pray, and act accordingly.
So, speak to the problem, declare God’s power, and listen for His instruction! Miracles are waiting to happen.
