Sifting and Shaking by Evangelist/Pastor Barbara {As posted in this weeks bulletin June 2, 2024 through June 8, 2024}
I am sifting and shaking the nations, causing all manner of destruction, but still, the knees are not bowing. I will continue on this path of destruction until the nations start responding. How long it lasts is entirely up to the nations. With all the darkness, the nations still will not relent. I will have My way. I destroyed Nineveh because of pride, and I can do the very same thing to you.
When the nations bow their knees and cry out to a merciful Father, then I will relent, but not before.
Nahum 2: 13A (ETRV) The LORD All-Powerful says, “I am against you, Nineveh.
Another reason for God’s anger against Nineveh was its extreme pride, See Nahum 3:8
The pride of Nineveh may have been due in part to its wealth and power.
Nahum 3: 1 (ETRV) It will be very bad for that city of murderers. Nineveh is a city full of lies. It is filled with things taken from other countries. It is filled with plenty of people that it hunted and killed.
Nahum 3: 11 (ETRV) So, Nineveh, you will also fall like a drunk. You will try to hide. You will look for a safe place away from the enemy.
The text of Nahum provides additional clues regarding God’s anger with the Ninevites.
Nahum 3: 1 says, “Woe to the city of blood, full of lies, full of plunder, never without victims!” Nineveh was a city of violence, known for its brutal treatment of those it conquered. The Assyrians were notorious for amputating hands and feet, gouging eyes, and skinning and impaling their captives. The final verse of Nahum’s book emphasizes the violence of the Assyrians in the form of a rhetorical question: “Who has not felt your endless cruelty?” (Nahum 3:19).
Despite the military might of Nineveh, they were no match for the God of heaven.
Jude 1: 11 (ETRV) It will be bad for them. They have followed the way that Cain went. To make money, they have given themselves to following the wrong way that Balaam went. They have fought against God like Korah did. And like Korah, they will be destroyed.
