                                              April 18-19-20Dear The Lighthouse,

I won’t forget my dad used to say “God doesn’t have a complaint department!”

While we can certainly come to God with anything, his point was we’re instructed in the Bible to “do everything without complaining or arguing.” Another scripture says that whatever is “true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, or praiseworthy”, are the things we should think about.

That’s easier said than done, but what a great thing to strive for.

My dad had a million of ’em. I won’t forget the pithy sayings that somehow seemed original when he said them, like “I’ve never seen a hearse pulling a U-Haul trailer” or “You need to know in your knower.” And he always got a laugh when he called his audience “a lovely bunch of coconuts.” I never understood it but I laughed too.

Dad went to heaven in January, joining my Mom who passed on two and a half years ago. I am grateful I had Jesus-loving parents, and grateful that I have hours and hours of audio and video recordings of my father, who was a pastor and Bible teacher, teaching and encouraging me for the rest of my life.

And I’m grateful that dad taught me to be grateful.

I won’t forget the story he loved telling about his friend Earl. Earl had a lot of siblings and their dinner table was huge. If you wanted the biscuits that were out of reach at the other end of the table, you were taught to say “thank you for the biscuits.” Be grateful, and here come the biscuits. Asking for them outright was a no-no.

What a great lesson.

April 18-19-202023 is a year of gratitude here at The Bridge. We’re writing down the things we are grateful for and pausing to appreciate them. “Thank you for the honor to serve you, Lord.” “Thank you for using The Bridge to connect people to You.” “Thank you for your vision and for enlarging our tent.”

It’s ok to complain. Portions of the Psalms are even categorized as songs of lament. I won’t forget that when Jehoshaphat went into battle, he put the people singing praise in the front, and the enemy destroyed itself.

Maybe you can’t sing, but when you play The Bridge in your home, your car, and at work, the praise is going out in front, ahead of you, and we know God’s word “doesn’t return void.”

If The Bridge is part of your life, you know this April 18-19-20, we’ll invite listeners to donate during our spring fundraising event. Gifts from you are how The Bridge ministry is funded.

If you are grateful The Bridge is there for you every day and every night, I would like to ask you to help us remain financially strong and donate online today. Your gift is tax-deductible and will be used to provide hope and encouragement to a potential audience of almost 1.5 million people in Delaware, Maryland, Virginia’s Eastern Shore, and South Jersey.

We are grateful to be a part of these communities, and we are grateful for your partnership.

The Bridge is 100% community supported and your gifts to the ministry are tax-deductible.
