| Greetings Lighthouse Inc., Church Family,
While we are facing some of the most crucial times in our history. It is important for us to remember that God has given us so much, including the ability to work.
“23 And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ. 25 But he who does wrong will be repaid for what he has done, and there is no partiality. Colossians 3: 23 – 25 {NKJV}”
Historians can tell you a lot about Labor Day and how it came to be in existence in our world today. However, they cannot tell you about the character and nature of God. They neither know God, nor understand His purposes for our lives. King Solomon put forth this wisdom concerning work:
“18 Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me. 19 And who knows whether he will be wise or a fool? Yet he will rule over all my labor in which I toiled and in which I have shown myself wise under the sun. This also is vanity. 20 Therefore I turned my heart and despaired of all the labor in which I had toiled under the sun. 21 For there is a man whose labor is with wisdom, knowledge, and skill; yet he must leave his [a]heritage to a man who has not labored for it. This also is vanity and a great evil. 22 For what has man for all his labor, and for the striving of his heart with which he has toiled under the sun? 23 For all his days are sorrowful, and his work burdensome; even in the night his heart takes no rest. This also is vanity.
24 Nothing is better for a man than that he should eat and drink, and that his soul should enjoy good in his labor. This also, I saw, was from the hand of God. 25 For who can eat, or who can have enjoyment, [b]more than I? 26 For God gives wisdom and knowledge and joy to a man who is good in His sight; but to the sinner He gives the work of gathering and collecting, that he may give to him who is good before God. This also is vanity and grasping for the wind. (Ecclesiastes 2: 18 – 26 {NKJV})”
Here in America, we face many circumstances that are bad. The ever-increasing moral decline of our religious and political leaders has caused the prosperity of our country to dwindle down to almost nothing. We are in the midst of a crisis (Greek word is judgment} from God. Violence is in our streets, justice has been twisted, and every man does what is right in his own eyes.
Our sinking economy, loss of jobs to China & India, and an indebted work force are factors that are showing just how out of control things have become. Our governmental leaders are forcing regulations upon people and businesses alike, restricting trade, and enticing our citizens with handouts. This all leads to decreased motivation to build and make things better. Why should we work if the government is just going to take care of us. It’s a slippery slope into our destruction and we are just one banana peel from our fall.
Only God can stop this from happening. We must turn back to Him with everything that is within us.
On this Labor Day may you remember the giver of the blessings that you enjoy and know that they didn’t come your government or your ability to take care of yourself. They came directly from God, the author and finisher of all things in your life.
May you and your family enjoy the blessings of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in this pivotal time.
In Christ,
Pastor/Evangelist Barbara Lynch |
