Love is one of the most powerful and meaningful four letter words known to man. The word Love is who God is and what He is all about. True, unconditional, agape love that every human being is looking for can be found in Him.

As a child of God, we should be showing a reflection of God by doing what He is and that is love. One of the biggest issues is the world has twisted and perverted love and marriage and what it represents.

The world has tried to define love and has limited it based upon its own understanding and has marked it with requirements. Unfortunately, their version of love ends up with disappointment, unmet expectations, and even brings people to believe that they cannot be loved if they are not accepted by the world. There are many ways the world has portrayed love inappropriately with fantasy, fairy tales, and conditions that makes love at times seem unattainable.

There are so many people that think they cannot be loved because they do not pass the world’s standards of love. In return, they also cannot believe that God can love them without conditions and they believe that God’s love will run out. One of the reasons they believe this is because so many marriages have a very poor reflection of love and the relationship between Christ and the church.

When you get married you become an example of what a relationship is between Jesus and the church and what people should expect. When the world sees your marriage what do you think they are thinking? Are you showing the love of Christ to your spouse and family?

The Word of God makes it very clear that Love is an action. Love is a choice that needs to be put into action and not just be meaningless words.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8 (ERV)
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous, it does not brag, and it is not proud. 5 Love is not rude, it is not selfish, and it cannot be made angry easily. Love does not remember wrongs done against it. 6 Love is never happy when others do wrong, but it is always happy with the truth. 7 Love never gives up on people. It never stops trusting, never loses hope, and never quits. 8 Love will never end…

Each and every day a choice is made whether or not you are going to live out love. Love is the one thing that Jesus always did and He requires the same out of us. This of course means to love our spouses even at the times where they are the most unlovable person. It is through true love that can shine the True Light and bring healing to any reason of why the person is responding the way they are. You can even bring them to a place where they see God through you and it brings their lives around to serve God.

1 Peter 3:1-3 (ERV)
1 In the same way, you wives should be willing to serve your husbands. Then, even those who have refused to accept God’s teaching will be persuaded to believe because of the way you live. You will not need to say anything. 2 Your husbands will see the pure lives that you live with respect for God. 3 It is not fancy hair, gold jewelry, or fine clothes that should make you beautiful. 4 No, your beauty should come from inside you—the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit. That beauty will never disappear. It is worth very much to God.

This scripture goes for both the wives and the husbands. So ask yourself this question: What have you done to act out Love? Do not wait for Valentine’s Day to do these things. Do the same thing Christ Jesus did and live it out each and every day. Choose to Love. Love is a verb that requires action! Be a reflector of Jesus Christ, even through your marriage. Choose to Love.
