So many women skip this chapter in the Bible because there have been many concepts taught that are contrary to this Scripture. There have been mixed feelings as to the place of a woman in the home. They feel that these Scriptural teachings are not for the women of today.

The truth is Proverbs 31:10-31 is the same now as it was then. It describes what a wife is to do and how important and valuable a wife is in the home. It is what God had intended for a woman to do to help their husband and to do her part in bringing God’s love and security into the home.

We narrow our perspective on what it is saying instead of seeing the beauty in it. It is all about being a good servant, having your home reflect Jesus Christ and being the one who helps your family stick together.

Women it is time to step up in your place in your family and do what you are supposed to be doing. You can do this even if you are the only one in your family taking care of things, because Jesus is your husband to be.

These are attributes you should be striving for and to teach your children. Your children need to see your example of how to be a servant. If you have a close relationship with the Lord you will be able to do these acts of servant hood as though you were doing them for Him.

You will be surprised how asking God to change you so you bring this atmosphere into your home will bring a great healing and how love will abide in the home no matter how your husband is or acts towards you. It may not be easy, but it can be done.

Those of you who are not married yet, you are going to want to study this chapter very well so that you know what you are agreeing to do in the relationship of the one you are getting ready to marry. If you are not ready to fulfill this role, then please do not get married until you are. It will save you a lot of heartache and a lot of extra work.

If anything in these Scriptures offend you, then allow a deeper search to take place and find out what the root of the problem is; and why you cannot fulfill it. Then you can ask God to help heal you and strengthen you to begin the correction and walk forward. All of this and more of what is in the Word is just teaching us how to walk in the unconditional love of God and to see we do have purpose and value in what God has called us to do.

Here are the Scriptures (in bold) and what I have gleaned from each one {in brackets}. Please allow God to show you more and to let it become a part of who you are… a beautiful woman of God…

Proverbs 31:10-31 (MSG)
Hymn to a Good Wife
10-31 A good woman is hard to find, and worth far more than diamonds.
{A good woman is very valuable to a family and should be treasured.}

Her husband trusts her without reserve, and never has reason to regret it.
{She is faithful and loyal without a doubt.}

Never spiteful, she treats him generously all her life long.
{She doesn’t retaliate or seek revenge, but is generous.}

She shops around for the best yarns and cottons, and enjoys knitting and sewing.
{She expects the best for her family and keeps clothed.}

She’s like a trading ship that sails to faraway places and brings back exotic surprises.
{She will go the extra lengths to bring her family the best.}

She’s up before dawn, preparing breakfast for her family and organizing her day.
{She makes sure her family and others of the house needs comes first every day and keeps things in order.}

She looks over a field and buys it, then, with money she’s put aside, plants a garden.
{She is smart with money and sees ahead and prepares ahead for what is needed.}

First thing in the morning, she dresses for work, rolls up her sleeves, eager to get started.
{She is motivated to get the best out of each day and not afraid to get her hands dirty. She is a team player.}

She senses the worth of her work, is in no hurry to call it quits for the day.
{She sees the project to its completion and without complaint.}

She’s skilled in the crafts of home and hearth, diligent in homemaking.
{She keeps the home clean and feeling welcomed and knowledgeable how to take care of her home.}

She’s quick to assist anyone in need, reaches out to help the poor.
{She is hospitable and helps those who are in need. She is a caretaker.}

She doesn’t worry about her family when it snows; their winter clothes are all mended and ready to wear.
{She is ready in and out of season.}

She makes her own clothing, and dresses in colorful linens and silks.
{She has her own style with appropriate and value taste.}

Her husband is greatly respected when he deliberates with the city fathers.
{Her husband is respected because of how his home is ran.}

She designs gowns and sells them, brings the sweaters she knits to the dress shops.
{Her work is done well enough to sell and can help support the family if need be.}

Her clothes are well-made and elegant, and she always faces tomorrow with a smile.
{She can rest knowing her work is good quality and will last and looks at the future with much hope and joy and looks at the best of it.}

When she speaks she has something worthwhile to say, and she always says it kindly.
{She is careful to say only things that matter and meaningful, and does it in a kind attitude.}

She keeps an eye on everyone in her household, and keeps them all busy and productive.
{She is a motivator for her family to do better.}

Her children respect and bless her; her husband joins in with words of praise: “Many women have done wonderful things, but you’ve outclassed them all!”
{Her family sees all that she does for the family and values her.}

Charm can mislead and beauty soon fades. The woman to be admired and praised is the woman who lives in the Fear-of-God.
{How is she able to do all this… because she lives in the Fear – of – God. She has an intimate relationship with God and obeys His laws, and walks in LOVE!}

Give her everything she deserves! Festoon her life with praises!
{When she has been able to do all this, nothing should be withheld from her. Let her works speak for themselves.}
